![]() Human Sculpture, Yad Vashem. Copyright © Bob Rosenbaum 1988 Even to the casual visitor, Jerusalem is a unique place in this world, where symbolism and humanism achieve their tightest integration. When I first saw this Yad Vashem sculpture, I was very impressed by the piles of rich plowed earth surrounding it, and cynically wondered whether a grounds person actually went out each day to turn the soil over, in order to maintain its fresh redness for tourists. Today, I am far less comfortable with this image. I look at the struggle of each individual taking place in that sculpture, and recognize that only by Supreme Grace am I standing today on the soil and not hanging on the barbed wire. |
